Dense...Weight

An Artwork on Invisible Accumulation
A Knitted Leather Sphere and the Weight We Carry Within
This artwork emerges from a quiet observation of humanity—of the things we continually accumulate without realizing it. Not tangible objects, but stories, thoughts, and emotions that gradually layer and settle within us.

The work is constructed from leather that has been knitted, bound, tied, and formed into a dense spherical shape. A material typically used to cover, protect, or support is transformed into a symbol of carrying and containment. While the structure appears simple from the outside, it conceals an inner complexity formed by layers of cords, knots, and tensions compressed within.

The piece was first exhibited on December 6, 2025, at Haan Studio in Chiang Mai, within a space that allowed viewers to spend time with the work closely—unhurried, and without being directed toward a specific interpretation. The work was allowed to exist on its own terms, much like certain burdens, memories, or feelings we never intend to explain to anyone.

After that exhibition, the work did not come to an end but continued its journey. It is currently presented in a small-scale display at Kote’s shop within Chatuchak Weekend Market. In a place where people pass by, pause, or unexpectedly meet the work with their gaze, the artwork quietly inserts itself into everyday life—much like the things it seeks to speak of.

Concept of the Work: Dense…Weight
Human beings carry certain things that we continuously accumulate.
Stories, thoughts, and emotions—small elements that add weight to the heart without us knowing where they come from.
They slowly build up, layer upon layer,
until they become a mass that is both heavy and dense.

The tightening cords, the tied knots, the overlapping layers
form a structure that no one can see from the outside,
not even ourselves.

But when the first knot begins to loosen,
and the layers are gradually unraveled one by one,
the weight begins to change.
Some things become lighter without the need for answers.
Some reveal their true nature—things we never intended to look at.

What is unraveled is not something to be discarded.
It still has form, lines, and surface—
materials that can become something new,
different from what they were when tightly bound together.

This work is therefore not a question,
nor an answer,
but perhaps a space to notice
what we have tied too tightly,
and what—
when released—
allows us to breathe a little easier.

This work may not seek to be “understood,” but rather to evoke a familiar sense of weight, or the quiet relief of loosening certain knots without the need for justification. Its continued presence in spaces of everyday life may itself be part of the conversation the work invites—slowly, and with honesty toward each individual’s feelings.
