GUATE LEATHER, a small shop in Chatuchak, crafting handmade leather bags by Thai artisans.
Guate Leather is one of Thailand’s handmade leather bag brands, founded and continuously operated since 1995.
It began as a small shop at Chatuchak Weekend Market in Bangkok and has remained committed to craftsmanship rather than mass production to this day.

Guate Leather was founded by Mr. Mana Promrat and Ms. Apa Promrat.
The name “Guate” comes from Guate Mala fabric, which was used in combination with genuine leather in the brand’s early bag designs.
This distinctive material became a key signature of the brandand has been carried forward as the brand name for more than 30 years.

From a small shop in Chatuchak to building its own factory, Guate Leather began as a modest stall at Chatuchak Weekend Market.
As the brand received increasingly positive responses, it took the step of establishing its own production factory.

In the early days, production relied on the help of close friends and family members, who worked together to craft leather bags for sale at the shop.
The products were also sold to international buyers who purchased in bulk for resale abroad.

As the business continued to grow, the factory expanded in size and began producing goods for export alongside retail sales at the shop.

The Factory in Uthai Thani and Community Support
Today, Guate Leather’s factory is located in Uthai Thani Province as part of the brand’s commitment to supporting local communities and creating income for Thai artisans.
The factory serves as the production base for leather bags for both the domestic market and export.
Every craftsman is Thai, with more than 20 years of experience in leather craftsmanship.

Handcrafted Leather, Not Mass Production

Guate Leather continues to develop products made from genuine leather, with craftsmanship as its core value.

Every step—from selecting the leather to cutting and stitching—reflects the quality and dedication of the artisans’ hands.
This can be felt in the texture of the leather, the precision of the stitching details, and the long-lasting durability of each bag.

Guate Leather Today

Although the brand once expanded its retail presence to several locations, such as Terminal 21 and CentralWorld,
the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic has left Guate Leather with only one remaining store today—
its original shop at Chatuchak Weekend Market, Section 3, Soi 44/2.

The store continues to serve as a space where classic style, craftsmanship, and contemporary design come together in one place.
